Cobalt Based Alloys

Cobalt based alloys are very corrosion and heat resistant due, in large part, to the unique properties of cobalt. The alloys produced at Signicast are generally for heat resistance and/or wear resistance and therefore contain large amounts of carbon, chromium, and carbide formers like tungsten. The microstructure consists of large amounts of primary carbides in a cobalt-chrome matrix. The alloys are very hard and maintain their hardness at very high temperatures, often making them hard to machine. Precision casting is often the most cost effective method for producing components in these alloys.
